Case study · Chrome Web Store

From launch to a
Featured badge.

Smart Video Controls — a privacy-first Chrome extension built by SBR Digital — earned the Chrome Web Store's Featured badge. Here's the short version of how it got there, and what it means for your extension.

The project

A small extension, built like a product.

Smart Video Controls

Smart Video Controls remembers your exact spot in every video and resumes it when you come back — with keyboard shortcuts for skip, speed, and volume on top. No accounts, no setup, nothing to configure.

The hard part is where it works: inside the cross-origin embedded players other extensions can't reach. And it stays out of the player's way otherwise — the native controls are left untouched.

What the badge rewards

Featured isn't a popularity contest.

Smart Video Controls earned its badge with a few hundred users — not a few million. The Chrome Web Store rewards the quality of the experience, not the size of the audience.

01

Craft users can feel

Position memory that just works, shortcuts that don't collide, a resume at 12:04 that's always right. The details that make an extension feel finished — because it is.

02

A modern foundation

Built on Manifest V3 with current Chrome APIs, and following the Web Store's recommended practices for extensions — the checklist the badge actually reads from.

03

Privacy by default

No accounts, no analytics party, no data leaving the machine. Minimal permissions, clearly disclosed — trust is a feature, and the store treats it like one.
